TAKE NOTE: Water interruptions expected in Ilembe today

A break in the main pipeline is reportedly a result of old infrastructure that is no longer able to withhold the existing pressures

Repairs on a pumping mains break between the Warrenton and Saunders Street reservoirs in Stanger have resulted in water interruptions today.

The iLembe District Municipality media liaison Khululiwe Makhaye confirmed that the affected areas include Indian Village, High ridge, Doesburg, Warrenton, Lindelani and New Guilderland.

The break is reportedly a result of old infrastructure that is no longer able to withstand the existing pressures.

For the interim, 30 metres of corroded steel pipe across the stream will be replaced, however long term plans will see construction of new pipes and pump stations, rerouting water from Balancing reservoir through to High Ridge and eventually to Warrenton reservoirs.

Construction of a new pipeline from Prince’s Grant to Lindelani and New Guilderland is also planned.

Repairs should be completed by 5pm today and water is scheduled to be back on by 6pm, excluding Lindelani and Doesburg areas, which will be supplied via water tankers.
