Thousands of voters queue at Shakas Head

Residents queued for up to two hours to cast their vote.

The RA Padayachee school in Shakas Head has since this morning seen voters queuing from as far as four kilometres outside the school.

The voting station has five sub-stations to accommodate voters.

Shakas Head resident and voter, Nomkuliswe Vusani said that she had been carrying her child on her back for two hours while waiting to vote.

Nomkuliswe and Snagagele Vusani voted after waiting for two hours.

“I live in Shakas Head township and I am not unhappy with the service delivery but I want more from the government.

“They are capable of doing more,” she said.

According to voting officials at 6pm, 3 569 people had voted of the 5 746 people registered to vote there.

Umhlali SAPS, warrant officer Buffy Arumugam said the voting process had been peaceful and that only a handful of people were still casting their votes.
