Suspected drug dealer killed in late-night N2 shoot-out with cops: R50k marijuana seized

Seven bags of marijuana and a series of fake number plates were found in the car.

A man was killed during a shoot-out with police on the N2 near Tinley Manor last night after fleeing a routine search in Nyoni, near Mandeni.

Two other men in the car, a white Toyota Corolla with fake plates, were able to escape.

Just before midnight last night, cops patrolling in Nyoni attempted to pull over the three men and search their car.

The deceased suspect’s pistol was seized.

“The driver of the vehicle ignored lawful instructions for him to stop and sped off and a high speed chase ensued,” said provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

“The suspects fired shots at the police as they drove past the Mvoti Toll Plaza and just after the Tinley Manor bridge, the suspects stopped on the side of the road, got out of their vehicle and continued shooting at the police.”

Police returned fire and killed one suspect, while the other two were able to escape into nearby bushes.

Police found seven bags of marijuana with an estimated value of around R50 000.

The car was later searched and police found seven bags of marijuana with an estimated value of R50 000 and a series of fake number plates.

A pistol was also recovered from the deceased suspect.

“A manhunt for the other two suspects is continuing,” said Netshiunda.
