Police investigation may link father and son to four deaths, including a pregnant woman

The men were denied bail in the Ndwedwe Magistrate's Court on Monday.

A 48-year-old father and his 25-year-old son charged with murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, were denied bail in the Ndwedwe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The two men were arrested after the decomposed body of a missing man was discovered in a demolished pit latrine at their home in Ndwedwe last week.

Police spokesperson, colonel Robert Netshiunda, earlier said the son was initially arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. During an investigation, it was revealed he was allegedly the last person seen with the 29-year-old missing man.

Further investigations led the police to believe the father and son had murdered the man, dumped his body in the pit latrine and demolished the structure to cover up the crime. The body was found last Thursday, marking a significant breakthrough in the investigation of other murder cases in the area to which the two suspects are now linked.

“These cases include the murder of a security officer in May this year, whose body was found dumped beside a road, and the January 2021 killing of a man whom they allegedly stabbed before leaving his body just a few metres from their home,” said Netshiunda. He said a possible link to the murder of a pregnant woman in Umlazi is also under investigation.
