Suspected house robbery duo arrested in Etete, weapons seized

The notorious gang has reportedly terrorised communities around the North Coast and Durban for almost a year.

Two men believed to be behind a string of house robberies were arrested in Etete on Friday.

The men, aged 17 and 29, have allegedly been terrorising Etete and Groutville residents for months.

iLembe police cluster spokesperson, Captain Alex Thomson, said the 29-year-old man was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police also recovered the car that was allegedly used in the commission of the house robberies.

“The diligent efforts of the police, together with all other law enforcement agencies, played a pivotal role in the successful apprehension of these suspects,” said Thomson.

One of the arrested men was found carrying an unlicensed firearm.

They appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

This arrest follows the arrest of four suspected house robbery gang members on the N2 Zinkwazi/Darnall flyover last month. They were spotted travelling in a car flagged on social media groups.

Law enforcement agencies and security companies gave chase, which ended in a shoot-out on the flyover. Two of the four men arrested were wounded.
