Heavy sentence for Mandeni store robber

Robbers shot the husband in the head, but he survived.

The eShowe Magistrate’s Court has sentenced Kwazi Mthembu to 15 years imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances and six years for attempted murder.

The court ordered that the two sentences run concurrently, and Mthembu was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Mthembu and an accomplice entered the KwaNgcobo Store in the Mbakela area in Mandeni in October 2020, holding a woman and her husband at gunpoint while robbing them.

They then shot the husband in the head, but he survived.

Sundumbili police arrested Mthembu in March 2022 but his accomplice managed to escape.
