Foreign national killed in Tongaat during alleged workplace dispute

During an argument, the 28-year-old man was stabbed in the chest.

A 28-year-old Zimbabwean man was killed in Tongaat this morning, allegedly by a co-worker following an argument.

The incident took place at a tyre fitment centre on Gopalall Hurbans Road just before midday.

Details surrounding the altercation remain unclear and the suspect was able to escape before response teams and police arrived.

“Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) officers and medics were dispatched and on arrival discovered the unresponsive male in a seated position against a wall below a wash basin,” said RUSA spokesperson, Prem Balram.

The man had already passed away by the time response teams arrived.

“It was alleged that the victim and the suspect worked together. They began arguing when the suspect produced a knife and stabbed his colleague once in the chest before he fled on foot.”

The victim was pronounced dead on scene.

Tongaat Saps confirmed that a case of murder had been opened and that further investigations would be undertaken.
