Cash-in-transit bombed and hijacked – Mandeni

The robbers used explosives to open the safe.

A cash-in-transit vehicle was hijacked near Mandeni earlier this evening.

An undisclosed amount of money was taken, said paramedics.

”There were no injuries but several shots were fired at the vehicle and as it stopped, explosives were used to open the safe, ” said Dylan Meyrick from IPSS Medical Rescue.

He said security guards had told them that, at least ten men had driven off in a white Ford Ranger double cab.

It is alleged that the cash-in-transit vehicle had collected money from businesses in Mandeni before it was hijacked.

Police had not responded at the time of publication.
