McKenna Academies tees up modern education for aspiring golf stars!

Pupils have the freedom to participate in various segments such as daily golf lessons, sessions about golf psychology and daily workouts to become better at the game while still attending regular school classes.

Relevant and modern online education is available at McKenna Academies through a partnership with Evolve Online School, ensuring that rising golf stars still get the education they need to succeed in life.

Based at Umhlali Country Club and Golf Estate, McKenna Academies Learning Lab is the right fit for your golf-captivated child, with the academy offering a quality, holistic education coupled with world-class golf instruction.

It is similar to a traditional school, with the exception that McKenna Academies, through Evolve Online, covers two different curriculums – the South African curriculum and the United Kingdom’s Cambridge curriculum.

Subjects offered include English, Mathematics, History, Geography, Science, Technology, Life Orientation and Economic Management Sciences, amongst others, with grades starting from seven.

“The difference is that we are a home-school curriculum provider, where pupils are expected to self-regulate and cover the coursework during the day. Live lessons are pure engagement, where pupils are expected to have done some work independently, and teachers assess the understanding of the work covered, extend and remediate. Our teachers do not watch pupils working,” said Evolve Online School’s head of academics, Lora Foot.

The students are supervised in class by well-respected tutor Sarah Berlyn as well as the ongoing support from Evolve.

While this means pupils need to be more organised and self-disciplined, it affords them the opportunity as golf athletes to keep up with the demands of their training schedule.

McKenna Academies’ mission is to provide a platform for golf-enthused pupils to obtain world-class, holistic instruction in high-performance golf and revolutionary school education.

Pupils have the freedom to participate in various segments such as daily golf lessons, sessions about golf psychology and daily workouts to become better at the game while still attending regular school classes.

This allows pupils to take part in golf competitions across the country without affecting their regular school studies.

The pupils at McKenna Academies are taught by top golf coach Emile Steinmann, whose mission it is to help youngsters become great golfers.

Although the academy specialises in golf, should your child be an aspiring sportsman in other individual sports i.e. tennis, surfing, cycling etc the school can tailor make the offering to suit their needs and will give all aspiring sports stars the flexibility to have supervised online education while at Umhlali and also the flexibility to attend tournaments and events without missing out on school. A unique offering.
