Demolition time!

The public are asked to keep clear of the demolition area as it will be extremely dangerous.

The Ballito N2 bridge will be demolished tonight and the section of the N2 closed from 6pm today until earliest 12pm on Sunday.

However the road may remain closed until 6am on Monday morning.

The public are being asked to keep clear of the construction site and to not attempt to watch the demolition as the area will be extremely dangerous.

Traffic on the N2 will be diverted.

Two lanes on the new interchange bridge opened to traffic this morning.

SMEC on-site engineer Dave Kendal said motorists should slow down approaching the bridge.

One lane in each direction is open and there is clear signage to get back onto the N2 south or north, and to Compensation.”

A single lane is open leading from the N2 Ballito off-ramp into Ballito. A portion of the P445 is cordoned off while construction workers drill on the existing bridge, preparing for demolition.
