Sliding in sunscreen!

Nivea Sun was looking for new, innovative ways to help parents protect their children from the damaging effects of the sun.

Squeals of delight were heard throughout the day on December 22 as more than 270 children slipped down the massive 4.5 metre Nivea Sunslide at Willard Beach.

According to Divinia Reddy from Symbiotic Communications, South Africa has the highest rate of melanoma skin cancer in the world. In addition, children’s skin is thinner and less developed, making it more sensitive to sun damage.

Nivea Sun was looking for new, innovative ways to help parents protect their children from the damaging effects of the sun.

“Children usually resist or escape the sunscreen application process, making this a frustrating, but necessary exercise for parents. So Nivea simultaneously applied sunscreen to children as they slide down the water slide.”

About 50 litres of waterproof Nivea Sun Kids Swim and Play Protection Sun Lotion used in the slide.

“Once the SunSlide is turned on, hundreds of fine spray jetted outlets fitted at the top of the slide, spraying down a light film of sunscreen onto the kids as they enter the arch, covering them from head to toe in sunscreen. This ensures that each child gets equal and even coverage,” said Reddy.
