Fighting hunger in KZN

Besides distributing 27000 meals, Food for Life South Africa also celebrated the official opening of a renovated kitchen.

Moolas Industrial Crescent in KwaDukuza turned into a huge kitchen last Saturday, where 108 pots of delicious, vegetable breyani were prepared by Food For Life.

The Courier joined Das Harillal from Stanger Manor, who was responsible for distributing food to residents of Doesburg township near Lindelani.

Children and their elders were excited about the food and eagerly waited for their plates to be filled, thanking the organisation for the meal.

“I did not know what I was going to eat today,” said one of the women, who wanted to remain anonymous, because she felt ashamed of not being able to provide food for her two children every day.

Besides distributing 27000 plates of food, the day also celebrated the official opening of a renovated kitchen for the KwaDukuza branch.

Vivian Reddy was praised by the chairperson of the non-profit organisation Babu Sampath for the R350 000 he spent on doing up the kitchen.

Food for Life South Africa chairman Viresh Panday, said the KwaDukuza branch has set a high standard for the other 26 branches around the country to follow.

“In the next three years we want 108 kitchens in the country to fight hunger in this country. Thank you to everyone who contributes money, time and energy whenever we call for help,” said Panday.
