Nkobongo fire smokes out residents

Residents angered by fire they say was started on purpose.

People were forced out of their homes when smoke billowed up from a dump-site inferno in Nkobongo yesterday.
Several houses situated above the site were seriously affected.
The KwaDukuza fire department tackled the blaze, getting it under control at around 2.30pm.
The site was being used by construction vehicles for the dumping of building waste.
The surrounding residents were outraged, saying this is not the first time.
“Somebody started this fire on purpose, and it has been going since this morning,” said one woman who did not wish to be named.
“We are very angry. The smoke makes it difficult to breathe. It makes the clothes dirty and soap is expensive.”
