Teacher turns missionary

This Ashton Collage teacher plans to help orphans and abandoned children.

A local teacher is planning to drop everything and return to Zimbabwe to set up a charity and classroom for orphans and abandoned children.
Alice Chinbingo has been working with pre-preparatory pupils at Ashton International College in Ballito for the past five years. She is a 49-year-old single mother of three whose generosity of spirit is palpable.
“Most people leave for greener pastures,” she said with a chuckle, “I am doing it vice versa.”
“The Lord has shown me what I need to do. I am in a good place where I am now, I am comfortable here, but I need to step out for other lives, to bring love and smiles,” said Chinbingo.
Originally from Zimbabwe, Chinbingo has always worked with children. She came to South Africa through her ministry and Church Alive in Ballito after having worked with children at 16 different Zimbabwean schools.
“I am so thankful to Ashton and everyone in South Africa who has shown me love. I have learned so much here and now I can go back and make a difference to children in Zimbabwe.”
Chinbingo plans to give young orphans there a strong grounding in English while preparing them for school.
“I will open a grocery shop at the front of the building to fund it and have the classroom at the back. I will teach them and share my food with them. It is scary, but I take comfort in my faith.”
Chinbingo will leave for Zimbabwe at the beginning of December and is appealing to people in Ballito to help her financially in order to meet the food and clothing needs of the children when she gets there.
