UPDATE: Shakas Head councillor’s house and car set alight

Protestors continue to run riot through the township outside Ballito.

The protestors who closed the N2 and R102 this morning with burning tyres and tree branches have set fire to ward four councillor Jetro Banda‘s home and car in the township.

Banda has reportedly been taken to safety.

Umhlali SAPS spokesperson Vinny Pillay said that hundreds of people are continuing to riot through the township, stoning police and attempting to push their way back onto the highway.

“While the N2 has been reopened we ask the public to use alternate routes where possible and to avoid entering Shakas Head as it is not safe,” said Pillay.
