Sharing gifts and spreading Christmas cheer.

KwaDukuza municipality held a special year-end function for over 500 senior citizens at Thuthukani Day Care Centre where everyone exchanged gifts in the spirit of giving on Tuesday, December 15.

Mayor Ricardo Mthembu thanked the centre for recognising their work as government leaders.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete also visited the centre.

In her keynote address, Mbete said elderly citizens must tell the stories about their past in a bid to influence the culture and future of other generations.

“Being with you here is a blessing. You are precious and valuable citizens, you represent the history of and the future of our country so you need to tell the stories that you have never got a chance to tell in the past about the history and heritage of our country.”

She said it is the role of government to improve the lives of senior citizens across the country.
