Water minister visits Ballito, Hazelmere

The minister of water and sanitation is visiting areas affected by drought today.

The Lifestyle Centre in Ballito was abuzz this morning with minsters and officials from the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government visiting Ballito as part of a drought blitz.

The minister for water and sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane, the premier of KwaZulu Natal Senzo Mchunu, MEC for cooperative governance KZN Nomusa Dube-Ncube, the mayor of Ilembe district municipality Welcome Mdabe and the mayor of KwaDukuza Ricardo Mthembu together with other heads of departments engaged with the public to educate them about saving water.

With tight water restrictions and consumers being urged to save 50%, the purpose of the blitz was to further explain the seriousness of the drought issue and how people can save more water.

They distributed flyers and t-shirts to the public, printed with messages of saving water and reducing your consumption.

The ministers moved from Ballito to the local taxi rank, and visited Tongaat before joining a prayer meeting for the drought at Hazelmere Dam this afternoon.
