Accident takes five family members

Tragedy hits family over Easter weekend.

A Shakas Head family was devastated over the Easter weekend when five members of the family were killed in a car accident.

The van they were travelling in collided with another car on the R61 near Port Shepstone on Easter Saturday, April 4.

According to family member Zanele Ngubane the family was travelling from Shakashead to visit a relative in Lusikisiki.

Nombulelelo Manxiweni (41) and her children Nomvula (20), Fezeka (17), Sphelele (14) and Minenhle Ngubane (4) died on the scene.

The father, Joshua Ngubane (53), who was driving, is recovering at Shepstone Regional Hospital.

“I do not think he will be able to walk properly because he broke both his legs, but we are happy that he survived,” said Zanele.

Nomvulas’ funeral was held last weekend Saturday, April 11 at Amanzimtoti and the mother and the other three children’s funeral will be taking place this weekend, Saturday, April 18 at Lusikisiki.

Sphelele was a grade six pupil at Sizani Combined School and his teacher Rose Khuzwayo said the school would like to send some pupils to the funeral.

“We are appealing to anyone who can sponsor transport to the funeral,” said Khuzwayo.

For those who would like to donate to the family they can contact Zanele on 083 528 5573 and for the school transport call Rose on 082 5052 866.
