Restrictor washers force water saving

Tinley Manor residents upset over slow water flow.

Sembcorp Siza Water recently installed flow restrictor washers at Tinley Manor to help the area achieve the required 30 percent reduced consumption.

Suddenly showers all but ran dry, geysers broke and dishwashers and washing machines took forever to complete a cycle.

According to the water service provider, Tinley Manor only achieved a seven percent saving for April, which necessitated the installation of the small plastic disks with a small hole in the center into water pipes.

The community was in uproar, demanding to know why everybody had to be punished for a few individuals’ disregard for water restrictions.

Tinley Manor resident, Xavier Singh said Sembcorp Siza Water’s servey of usage patterns needed to be reviewed because there were many empty stands and holiday homes that stood empty for most of the year which could not contribute to a reduction in water usage.

He said it was easier for bigger areas that used larger amounts of water for gardening and swimming pools to reduce their water consumption.

At a community meeting held at Impulse by the Sea in Tinley Manor last Tuesday, March 24, Sembcorp Siza Water managing director, Shyam Misra demystified the ins and outs of the current water restrictions and the reason for installing the flow restrictor washers.
