Ballito residents slam drivers for disregarding road rules

We asked our readers how they felt about traffic light jumpers.

Red means go?

We asked our Facebook followers for their thoughts on how to enforce road rules locally seeing that traffic light jumpers are a major problem:

Tom Du Toit – They can kill someone doing that, last week Thursday at Ashton, it was green for me and a Taxi went through a red robot, just missing me. Saying sorry won’t solve the problem, think their Licemeces must be taken away and sent back to redo their Licence and must get a record as well. Road rules in this town, means nothing and the traffic department is no we’re to been seen to enforce this.

Wiseman Vilakazi – Amend the road traffic act. Allow for camera installation at every robot/intersection. Use camera evidence to fine traffic offenders. The fine must be payable before or at license disk renewal.

Terry Antrobus-Claassens – If they get caught make the driver do community service for 1 year at the morgue to see what consequences of his actions can cause.

Heinz Hellberg – The cops must sit at the traffic lights not every where else just stopping cars checking licenses at stop streets and fine them on the spot this way they will also make lots of KFC money and the intersections will be safer.

Sheena Macnab Harvey – Get Law Enforcement officers and officials that are not intimidated and pertified to do their jobs which is …. wait for it …. to enforce the law! Only reliable, healthy, brave, honest men/women with integrity and a desire to work need apply!

Pauline Gibling Smith – Treat every traffic light intersection as a four way stop.

Lauren Smith – Cameras and prosecuted otherwise police presence if there is such a thing.

Warren Loader – Unfortunately there is a total lack of visible policing in Ballito and surrounding areas. Cars get frustrated when they see taxis breaking every law and cutting in at robots. What do our traffic cops do after 9am in the morning? Do they have a clubhouse with free wifi?

Jay Lovey Govender II – We need real law enforcers.

Chantal De Jonge – Put some spikes in the road, when the red lights come on, the spikes appear at the stop, tyres will be to expensive to change, like the ones at the airport.

Michael Pearce – The municipality and it’s traffic department literally just need to do their job!!

Debbie May Duncan – Have law enforcement officers that can do their work properly. Not keeping check on KFC.

Jennifer Gildenhuys Reynolds – Police and prosecute!!! All law enforcement does is check licenses and catch speeding motorists. The traffic lights at Tiffany’s off the N2 is case in question!!!

Ashok Kumar Bhudan Ashok – Instant Fine of R5k

Charmaine Nicosia – Take away the drivers license and vehicle, Never to be returned.

Brian Kassel – Impound the vehicle and make the offender reapply for their drivers license. Only release the vehicle on payment of a R20000.00 fine – the problem will cease immediately

Kevin Frank Reynolds – Taxis do as they wish and eventually everyone follows suit. They have to be policed frequently and driving licenses cancelled

Abraham Barnard – if caught and prosecuted, Give them a horse for 3months, remove the privilege of using the road like a outlaw
