Club Med South Africa on track for 2026 grand opening at Tinley Manor

Construction of the luxury hotel complex already at first floor level.

The construction of Club Med South Africa is well underway, with the resort on target for its 2026 grand opening.

Substantial progress has been made on the Tinley Manor site since ground was broken in May, and one can see South Africa’s first Club Med location starting to take shape. Almost 500 people have already been employed, with that number set to jump to around 1 200 during the peak of construction.

Most of the workers have been sourced from within 5km of the site and input was sought from three local wards and the traditional council.

“I am delighted to share that construction is well on track for the opening in July 2026,” said managing director of Club Med South Africa, Olivier Perillat-Piratoine.

“We look forward to onboarding the market and engaging with our customers on this fantastic venture.”

The resort’s development is oriented around three main phases:

1. Hotel

The hotel will include 345 rooms and comprises the bulk of resort accommodation. It will be built in conjunction with the main pool, restaurant, bar, welcome area and boutique which have become synonymous with Club Med resorts worldwide. Construction has reached the first floor level of the hotel.

2. Exclusive Collection Villas

The villas are higher-end rooms and a total of 66 will be built, all with views of the estuary. The platforms have so far been prepared and piling is underway.

3. Convention Centre and parking

The convention centre is at the groundwork stage. Once built, it will offer space for up to 500 delegates.

The development of Club Med South Africa is being done with the environment in mind and the resort says it is on track for a four-star rating from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).

A four-star rating indicates best practice during construction, with five and six star ratings representing national and international excellence respectively.

“This project is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and a shared vision,” said project director Chris du Toit.

“By combining global standards with local expertise, we are not only building a resort but also contributing to the growth and development of the region.”
