#Letter: Shopper with damaged tyre suspects vandalism

The shopping centre has investigated the incident.

Ballito resident Janice Shaw writes:

Shopping at Lifestyle Ballito last month, my husband returned to his vehicle parked in the end row of the outside parking lot on the Sportsman’s Warehouse side and drove off.

He didn’t get far as there was a noise.

He stopped immediately and noticed the tyre behind the drivers side was completely flat.

He changed the tyre and went directly to Dunlop.

They pointed out that the wall of the tyre had been cut with a sharp instrument.

Another person in our estate said their car was scratched with a sharp instrument along the one side, also at Lifestyle Ballito.

Both incidents have been reported to the centre’s security office.

While not responding to the gentleman whose car was scratched, they did tell us they would investigate.

Since then we haven’t heard anything. It would be interesting to know if any other similar incidents have been reported and action taken.

Ballito Lifestyle Centre management responds:

Lifestyle Centre regrets that the Shaws had to contend with this incident. On the day, our security guards assisted Mr Shaw with the change of his flat tyre and were not aware of any vandalism.
The customer then returned after being advised by his service provider that it looked as though the tyre had been slashed and requested an investigation. The camera footage at the Centre was reviewed and the guard interviewed and unfortunately there was no evidence or footage of the incident. Mr Shaw was advised accordingly.
We will continually endeavour to maintain and improve upon our high level of security at the Lifestyle Centre.
