Reading champs crowned at KwaDukuza Resource Centre’s Read Aloud competition
Milando Makhaye and Trey Sindicich earn the vote as read masters.
Fifteen schools from the iLembe district participated in last week’s annual KwaDukuza Resource Centre Read Aloud competition. The competition aims to promote literacy, confidence and a love for reading among pupils in the district.
It was split into two categories – English First Additional Language (FAL) for Grades 3-7 and English Home Language (HL) for Grades 3-7.
Trey Jonathan Sindicich, a Grade 4 pupil from Shakaskraal Primary School, won the floating trophy in the English HL category with his captivating rendition of “The Wolf and the Crane”.
The English FAL category was won by Grade 6 pupil Milando Makhaye from Khayalemfundo Primary School with her powerful reading of “The Inventing Room – Everlasting Gobstoppers and Hair Toffee”.
KwaDukuza Resource Centre chairperson Sudhir Sham emphasised the importance of promoting a reading culture from an early age and the positive impact it has on young minds.
