Over 100 arrests and R100k in fines collected in all-women KwaDukuza police crackdown

KwaDukuza’s women in uniform took the streets by force.

More than 100 people felt the long arm of the (women’s) law last week, when female police and traffic officers undertook a cleanup of KwaDukuza streets.

The women made their presence felt by targeting, among others, drivers with outstanding warrants, successfully collecting more than R100 000 in fines and making 107 arrests.

The operation kicked off with a spirited launch led by KwaDukuza crime prevention deputy director, superintendent Celiwe Mzimela, who urged them to embrace their roles with confidence and pride.

She acknowledged the unique challenges they face, especially in rising up the ranks to senior positions, but reminded them of their inherent strength and capability equal to that of their male counterparts.

“Today is not just about showing off our uniforms, it’s about asserting our presence and making it clear that as women in law enforcement, we mean business. While others may be preoccupied with political favours, we are here on the ground, proving that we are more than capable of handling the task,” said Mzimela.

The officers also patrolled KwaDukuza CBD’s streets conducting thorough stop-and-search operations and checking street vendors for the necessary permits.

In conjuction with KwaDukuza Community Safety, awareness about social ills and gender-based violence was also promoted by engaging the public on the street and handing out pamplets.
