Ballito Neighbourhood Watch calls for patrol volunteers

Help keep your community safe.

The Ballito Neighbourhood Watch patrol group needs more volunteers to help keep the neighbourhood safe.

Volunteers commit to patrol at least two hours per week or every second week.

According to managing member Morné Steffens, patrollers do not engage in arresting criminals but report any incidents to local security providers who respond in reaction vehicles.

“Volunteers help to create a safer environment for themselves and their neighbours,” said Steffens

Volunteers will receive training, so no prior experience is necessary. If you want to join, contact Madeleine Hayhurst at 084 242 2566 to sign up for a patrol shift.

You can also help by donating to cover fuel costs if patrolling is not for you. Steffens stressed that the cost of fuel adds up quickly for those who patrol frequently or cover large areas. This burden makes it harder to carry out the watchdog role for the community.

“Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will help ensure these dedicated volunteers can continue their invaluable work without having to worry about the financial implications,” said Steffens.

This is a community of dedicated individuals who give their time and effort to make their neigbhbourhood a better place, without expecting anything in return.
