[Watch]House on fire: Swift action prevents complete destruction in Salt Rock

A gardener working on site raised the alarm which allowed for the fire department to limit the damage.

A Salt Rock housefire was limited to just two rooms following quick thinking from a gardener and swift response from emergency teams.

The home on Oldfield Road caught alight at around 10.30am this morning, the cause of which is currently unknown.

With nobody home, it was good fortune that the gardener spotted the growing blaze and sought help from a neighbour, who called the fire department.

The KwaDukuza Fire Department and IPSS Search and Rescue soon responded, working in tandem to douse the flames in two bedrooms and search the house for people.

No injuries were reported.

On arriving back to find the home partially destroyed, homeowner Anita Greve said she would still need to count the full extent of the damage.

“My entire roof is destroyed, and I wonder what is left of the lounge,” she said.

“My mother uses one of the damaged bedrooms when she visits. Just imagine she was there, luckily there was no one at home.”
