Tow truck workers and emergency volunteer rushed to hospital after secondary crash

This incident follows the recent death of Shakaskraal tow truck driver Sugan Singh who lost his life while helping a critically injured motorist on the southbound lane of the N2 outside Ballito.

Five first responders had to be hospitalised after a car struck them while they were attending to an accident scene on Watson Highway last night.

While they were busy at the initial crash site, another vehicle from the Tongaat off-ramp collided with a car on Watson Highway, causing both cars to career into them.

Owner of Bigshow Towing, Ismail Mitha, his son Ahmed and manager Churkee, have been discharged from the hospital.

“I’m fine but still in much pain. I’m just grateful we are alive,” Mitha said.

Fadil Sadack of F1 Towing and Riza Sadack, spokesperson for the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), remain in the hospital.

According to Nazir Sadack, Fadil (his brother) is out of surgery and Riza (his son) is scheduled for surgery today.

“It’s one thing helping motorists in accidents, but it becomes overwhelmingly emotional when it involves family members and colleagues. Thanks to IPSS Medical Rescue and Netcare for promptly transporting the injured to hospital,” said Nazir.

Samantha Meyrick of IPSS Medical Rescue commended the dedication of the five individuals, highlighting their continuous efforts to assist their communities and support emergency services. She wished them a swift recovery.

This incident follows the recent death of Shakaskraal tow truck driver Sugan Singh who lost his life while helping a critically injured motorist on the southbound lane of the N2 outside Ballito in October.
