Tongaat police on high alert for festive season

The beaches, notably Westbrook, will also see heightened police presence.

Tongaat police are gearing up for a crime-free festive season, pledging zero tolerance for criminal activities in the area.

Police spokesperson Manisha Maharaj-Marie announced robust measures to ensure safety, including strategic roadblocks around the town and beaches in collaboration with eThekwini Metro.

With an anticipated surge in visitors to Tongaat, particularly the increased traffic to the new oThongathi Mall, additional officers will be deployed to patrol the town and conduct stop-and-search operations.

The beaches, notably Westbrook, will also see heightened police presence.

Maharaj-Marie emphasised their proactive approach, revealing the deployment of a cluster task team dedicated to identifying crime hotspots.

In a collaborative effort, assistance will be sought from a neighbouring police station when needed.

This initiative comes in the wake of criticism directed at Tongaat police by the African National Congress, whose members marched to the police station last month to voice their concern about crime.

The business community also raised concerns when they experienced a string of armed robberies in October, calling for more police officers to be deployed.
