Dolphin Coast Classic draws top bowlers to Umhlali Country Club
The team of Roger Boulle, Doug Bashford, Wayne Roberts and Neil Tovey proved a cut above over the course of the weekend and took the grand prize.
Poor weather could not prevent some fantastic bowling from taking place at the 17th annual Dolphin Coast Classic last weekend.
Drawing 24 teams by invitation from across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, the tournament is the North Coast’s premier bowling showcase.
And those competing certainly showed why, stringing together some great scores over three days of action between Friday and Sunday.
“This is a prestigious tournament and is made up of 24 of the best skips from around the country. It is not club specific and the skips can mix and match to create their best foursomes,” said tournament manager, Joe Marais.
Teams played three games apiece on Friday and Saturday before the final two match-ups on Sunday decided who would walk away with their share of almost R100 000 in total prize money.
Games lasted 15 ends as opposed to the standard 21 to allow for more teams to face each other.

“We are really happy with the turnout and quality of competition this year. All 96 players are among the best in their communities and it has made for some excellent bowling,” said Marais.
Even the drizzle on Sunday could not put a dampener on the mood.
