With about 5 580 people affected by the recent floods in the region, iLembe District Municipality held a prayer meeting in Mandeni.
Mandeni mayor, councillor Thabani Mdlalose, welcomed the community to the event at Sibusisiwe Hall last Thursday.
“As we continue to deal with the aftermath of the floods owing to climate change, we must also take into consideration that we are still in a pandemic.
“As Mandeni we welcome the prayer and we welcome everyone attending today. We pray for all those affected by the floods in Mandeni, Maphumulo, Ndwedwe and KwaDukuza and trust this prayer will reach everyone,” Mdlalose said.
“As a district whose role it is to provide water and sanitation, a lot of our infrastructure such as pipes have been washed away and pump stations have been flooded causing delays in delivery of services.
“As we pray today, we must also remember there are many challenges we need to pray for. Perhaps the floods served as a reminder that there is a lot we do as human beings that our Maker is not happy about,” said Shandu.
