KwaDukuza municipality offers amnesty for those behind on refuse and electricity payments

Are you behind in your electricity payments? If so, relief might be at hand.

KwaDukuza residents who have fallen behind in payments to the municipality (KDM) are eligible for new debt relief measures passed by Council on August 26.

The scheme is intended to cut down on electricity losses and offers an amnesty to those with illegal connections.

It will run from September 1 to June 17, 2022.

“The relief will assist consumers to come forward and rectify their service connections.

“It will also assist KDM to reduce energy loss, increase revenue and reduce operational costs as a result of equipment failures caused by overloading of electricity infrastructure.

“The amnesty shall be implemented on both single/three phase prepaid and conventional customers,” said Mayor Dolly Govender.

The measures are the first to be announced by KDM since the July unrest which left many KwaDukuza residents with reduced incomes.

Businesses however are not eligible, only residents.

Application forms are available from the finance offices in KwaDukuza and Ballito, or by email from C19debtreliefscheme@kwadukuza.gov.za.

Defaulters must pay 15% of their outstanding debt within 72 hours of receiving a quotation and the balance by June 17, 2022.
