#DJsRecords: A God-shaped vacuum

"There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made know through Jesus Christ."

The fact that Almighty God desires to have me as His friend fills my heart with wonder.

Some sociologists have described humans as “animals that worship”, or as Blaise Pascal said:

“There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of each man which cannot be satisfied by any created thing but only by God the Creator, made know through Jesus Christ.”

And: “Sometimes loneliness is God’s cry in your heart for friendship with you.” Anon.

“For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” Romans 5:10-11.

There are some in history who have discovered the wonder of friendship with God. “God has made Himself my friend.” Pope Benedict XVI.

“True worship is when a person enters intimacy and friendship with God.” William Temple.

God initiates this friendship, and guides us how friendship with Him works.

He spells out His values that we are encouraged to embrace:

· Just as much as this is an essential prerequisite of any real friendship, trust in Him is basic. This was true of Abraham: “Abraham trusted God, and the Lord declared him good in God’s sight, and he was even called ‘the friend of God’.” James 2:23.

· It follows that if you regard Him as your most trusted friend, you will have no problem taking His advice. “You are my friends if you do what I command.” John 15:14.

Here are the blessings I have found from having friendship with God:

· Having God as my friend has made hardships of life easier to bear.

· He brings the best and most trustworthy friends into my life.

· This friendship with the most faithful and capable Friend, helps me look beyond the fear that is stressing me out helping me overcome life’s giants against whom I am no match.

· Like the young shepherd boy David facing the menacing giant Goliath, he knew that God was with him, and said to himself: “I will trust in him and not be afraid.” Isaiah 12:2. His huge size does not scare me; he is too big to miss!
