Salt Rock councillor Malcolm Hubner dies at 70

The chief whip of the DA in Ilembe passed away of a sudden heart attack.

Salt Rock ward 22 councillor and chief whip of the DA in Ilembe, Malcolm Hubner, passed away yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.

The 70-year-old councillor, who was well known for his no-nonsense approach and dedication to the community, suffered a sudden heart attack and died in his Salt Rock home leaving residents and his colleagues shocked and devastated.

DA member of parliament and DA constituency head for Ilembe, Dean Macpherson described Hubner as a man of action.

“Malcolm served on the executive committee for KwaDukuza municipality (KDM) as well as being the DA’s chief whip in council. He also served as the Ilembe constituency chairperson for a number of years.”

Macpherson said Hubner was a foundation of wisdom.

“He was a dedicated community man who never shied away from helping those in need, no matter what their social or financial status was.

“His passing leaves a massive void in the DA and the community he served, which will not easily be filled.”
