The Ilembe’s information and communication technology manager Khanyi Ndelu scooped the ICT Services Award at  the second annual ICT awards held at the Durban City Hall recently.
The awards were founded by the deputy chairwoman of KZN Black IT Forum, Buyi Buthelezi.
Ndelu, who joined Ilembe in January last year, said this was the first time she had been nominated for an award.
“I am not really into competitions or anything of the sort so being nominated on its own was an honour for me. It is great to be recognised for the work one has been doing for the past 11 years in a predominantly male dominated field,” she said.
Communications minister Yunus Carrim and KZN premier’s wife Thembeka Mchunu handed over the awards to the deserving winners. Minister Carrim said he was impressed with the progress made by women in the ICT industry.
Before joining the iLembe family Ndelu worked as a deputy director of contracts and information systems for the water affairs department.
“I was there for three years and before that I was a deputy director information technology for the department of correctional services in Mpumalanga, North West and Limpopo region,” she said.
