A community policing forum (CPF) closely tied to the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch (BNW) has been formed to help curb crime in Ward 6 Ballito.
The CPF committee, which was elected last Wednesday, is made up of members of the Ballito Neighbourhood Watch and local security companies who will be working closely with Umhlali SAPS to report crime and ensure a faster response time.
BNW chairperson Gary Frances has since switched roles taking up the position as chairperson of the Ward 6 CPF chairperson. Candice Henderson is the new BWN chairperson. Speaking at the committee meeting, Frances said the well established Neighbourhood Watch will now feed into the CPF which will be guided by the formalities from SAPS.
“Our goal is to have a safe neighbourhood and to assist the police. We are coming in with 600 eyes and ears that are out there feeding information to the Neighbourhood Watch who will pass information to the CPF, who will, in turn, deliver that information to SAPS. We must encourage people to use the WhatsApp groups to help report crime and point us in the right direction.”

Umhlali captain Vinny Pillay said that it was important that communities got involved in eradicating crime.
“The CPF will act as the eyes and ears of the community and will bring important crime related matters to our attention. We will meet and interact on a regular basis.”
Members or the CPF are: chairperson Gary Frances, vice chairperson Candice Henderson, treasurer Morne Steffens, secretary Jenny Steffens. The executive members are: Lina Dos Santos, Nico Viljoen, Craig Johnstone, Francois Snyman and Brad Himer.
