Technical faults at the KwaDukuza and Salt Rock vehicle licensing office have tempers rising while residents have for weeks been given the runaround.
The licencing system at the Salt Rock municipal office has been down for almost four weeks while the system at the KwaDukuza office has been sporadic.

Furious Ballito resident Dave Williams said he had spent over R100 on transport costs when he was forced to travel from Salt Rock to KwaDukuza to sort out his license.
“At the end of the month I went to the Salt Rock office and I was told that the systems were out of order. I then had to drive to KwaDukuza which, for two trips, is more than 60 kilometres and two tolls.
“Before driving there, I asked for phone numbers for the KwaDukuza license office but the phone just rang and rang. It was an absolute inconvenience,” he said.
KwaDukuza municipality media liaison officer Sipho Mkhize attributed the fault at the KwaDukuza office to network issues, while saying that the problems experienced at Salt Rock municipal office were not that of KDM but the KZN transport department (DOT).
“DOT has to repair their licencing computers at the Salt Rock office. This problem has been communicated to the appropriate person at the department for their urgent attention and we await their response. The computers in question are DOT’s responsibility and cannot be maintained by anyone else.”
Mkhize said the problems experienced at the KwaDukuza testing grounds have since last Friday been resolved.
“There were network problems which affected the internet, emails and telephones. “
DOT has not responded to our questions as to what is causing of the fault and when it will be fixed.
People are urged to use the KwaDukuza office instead of Salt Rock.
