The N2 northbound at Shaka’s Head is similarly affected and is currently a ‘no-go’ zone, said Umhlali saps spokesperson, Vinny Pillay.

The M4 and Tongaat toll are open and any motorists traveling are urged to use these roads or the R102, said Pillay.

Further inland, the N3 is closed with repeated protests at Mooi River, Howick and Harrismith going towards Johannesburg, per ECR Traffic.

Multiple metros are seeing similar violence, including Durban, Johannesburg and Gqeberha prompting an extraordinary safety measure to suspend all public transport, including trains, buses and registered taxis countrywide.

The KZN Taxi Association have announced that no taxis will be running today.

The shutdown notices circulated on social media by pro-Zuma protesters have been clear in their goal and as such, motorists are advised by Saps to only travel as absolutely necessary and to proceed with caution.
