UPDATE: Shaka’s Head protest victim hopes to walk before Christmas

Sashni Daniel made an amazing recovery after undergoing three brain operations, as well as suffering from a stroke and meningitis.

After fighting for her life in hospital for more than three months, Sashni Daniel has undergone yet another surgery – this time to help her walk again.

The 28-year-old Stanger resident suffered severe head trauma when she was hit by a rock thrown at the car she was travelling in during a Shaka’s Head service delivery protest on the R102 earlier this year.

She made an amazing recovery after undergoing three brain operations, as well as suffering from a stroke and meningitis.

However, she has been unable to walk for the past three months and underwent an intensive operation last Tuesday to correct her leg alignment.

“The surgery was to release her hamstrings and correct the position of her foot on her left leg. This was caused by the stroke,” said her father.

Kovi said they did not know yet if the surgery was a success but they hoped Sashni would be on her feet by Christmas.

“She is still in a cast and will have to undergo physiotherapy soon. Although she is slightly uncomfortable, she is in good spirits.”
