Meet the Salt Rock ward committee

Ward 6, Ballito committee election will take place at the Ballito Library tonight at 6pm.

Four new members were elected into the Salt Rock ward committee last night – becoming the new eyes and ears of the committee.

The ward committee is made up of 10 members who work together with the councillor to report problems experienced in their respective areas.

With about 20 people meeting at the Salt Rock library, the voting process was headed by KwaDukuza Municipality’s public participation unit who ensured the that the process was fair.

Have your say in Ballito and Salt Rock governance

KwaDukuza councillor John Phala who headed up the election said it was a chance for people to get involved in local government.

“Although local government may be the smallest unit, it is the most important because it is the closest to the people. It is disappointing to see that out of the more than 4000 people in the Ward 22 voters role, only 20 have shown up.

“No organisation is perfect and we need people to get involved and have they say. By not doing so, they are standing on the sidelines, distancing themselves but criticising.”

DA ward 22 councillor Malcolm Hubner said he was happy with the outcome of the elections and hoped the committee would be successful.

“Councillors need support and people need to work together because the more noise you make, the more gets done. We are still to decide the portfolios for each member which will include sport, security, roads, electricity and so on.

The ward 22 committee are: Jane Clarkson, Hoffie Rautenbach, Sithembile Myeni, Zanela Khoza, Mbalie Skakane, Stuart Weston, Lucky Mnisi, Hans Brose, Penny Fourie and Martha Neves.
