The South African Revenue Service (Sars) is clamping down on tax evasion and fraud, while the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is issuing summonses to taxpayers with outstanding tax returns.
This is part of the revenue service’s compliance drive to assist South Africans in ensuring their tax status is up to date. Here’s what you need to know.
Simply send an SMS to Sars on 47277 with the word “Booking”, along with your passport number, ID number or asylum permit number.
Example: Booking 8308241234088 or Booking A02912347
An agent will then telephonically make a booking on your behalf. Alternatively, you can visit any of the Sars mobile tax units to assist with the completion and submission of Income Tax Returns (ITR12).
