Need help with filing your taxes? Here’s where to find a Sars mobile unit

The South African Revenue Service (Sars) is clamping down on tax evasion and fraud, while the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is issuing summonses to taxpayers with outstanding tax returns.

This is part of the revenue service’s compliance drive to assist South Africans in ensuring their tax status is up to date. Here’s what you need to know.

Sars: File your Income Tax Returns

Make a booking

Simply send an SMS to Sars on 47277 with the word “Booking”, along with your passport number, ID number or asylum permit number.

An agent will then telephonically make a booking on your behalf. Alternatively, you can visit any of the Sars mobile tax units to assist with the completion and submission of Income Tax Returns (ITR12).

Mobile tax units

Agents at mobile units will assist with the completion and submission of Income Tax Returns on the MobiApp or via eFiling, and will attend to general tax enquiries.

What you’ll need:

  • Original identity document (ID, passport or asylum permit)
  • IRP5 for
  • Medical aid certificates
  • Retirement Annuity Fund
  • Travel Logs
  • Smart Phone

Mobile tax units will have been dispatched to regions around the country. The schedule is updated regularly and can be perused here.
