A well-known chocolatier has no sweet words for President Jacob Zuma and the current state of politics in South Africa.
This week Geldhof Chocolatiers unveiled what the Geldhofs call their “political eggs” in their Sandton City Easter display.
The display features chocolate egg sculptures depicting axed finance minister Pravin Gordhan, complete with a copy of the constitution in his front breast pocket, members of the controversial Gupta family surrounded by fake South African rands, and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini, a handbag and bottle of Savanna Dry premium cider in her arms.
Eileen Geldhof, from Geldhof Chocolatiers, says the display forms part of their protest against President Zuma.
“We were unable to take part in the marches this past week, so have come up with this idea to express our feelings.
“The eggs are for sale, if we can get the right price,” she says, adding, “but maybe (EFF leader) Julius Malema would like them, or (DA leader) Mmusi Maimane.”
The display also features a sculpture of American President Donald Trump.
A competition is being run for people taking selfies with these “State of the Nation” eggs. The winner stands to get a giant Easter bunny.
