No load shedding expected on Friday

On a cold and rainy Friday morning, Eskom has announced that no load shedding will be anticipated as the power system is currently stable.

“Eskom has been able to supply the country’s electricity needs and do maintenance without implementing load shedding for the past 26 days,” said Eskom in a statement.

“Our maintenance plan is aimed at increasing the reliability of our plant, and this will in turn increase our operating reserves and stabilise the grid.”

While Eskom said they did not anticipate any load shedding, the system does remain vulnerable, meaning that any extra load or faults in the system may necessitate the need to implement load shedding at short notice.

“We appeal to all our customers to continue to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day but to be aware of the need to save more during the peak periods from 06:00 to 10:00 and 17:00 to 21:00.”
