Eskom said the power system was stable on Tuesday morning and would allow the power utility to perform maintenance without load shedding.

“However, as a result of increased electricity demand in the evening and power stations’ units being on maintenance, the power system is expected to be constrained during the evening peak period (5pm to 9pm),” Eskom said. “In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times.”

Eskom asked consumers to continue reducing electricity usage throughout the day and said people should be aware of the need to save more during peak periods, from 6am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm, despite the current cold weather conditions across the country.

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, were urged to make “a big difference” by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers on standby mode after hours.

The Citizen has compiled a list of load shedding schedules from across different municipalities. Due to the fragmented nature of the information available, not all schedules may be accurate or up to date. If your schedule does not appear here or is not up to date, let us know.

Should you be powered directly by Eskom visit the Eskom load shedding site to find out when you’ll be out. Type in your suburb/area in the search box to easily locate your area, i.e. Pimville or the Midvaal municipality.

Eskom has also collated a list for municipal customers which can be accessed here.
