Planned outages to hit Cape Town’s Philippi township, surrounding areas

In a terse statement the City said: ‘This outage is required to improve the reliability and security of the electricity supply’.

The City of Cape Town on Wednesday announced that next week it will carry out planned electricity outages in Philippi, New Horizon, Zeekoevlei, Pelican Park, Shoprite Shopping Centre on Strandfontein Road in Pelican Park and Cape Flats Waste Water Treatment Plant.

In a terse statement the City said: “This outage is required to improve the reliability and security of the electricity supply”.

The statement added: “Residents are advised to switch off geysers and disconnect sensitive electronic equipment to prevent damage from possible power surges when the supply is restored.

“All electricity installations must be treated as live for the full duration of the interruption as supply may be restored at any time without warning.”
