Eskom announced on Thursday afternoon that load shedding would begin from 5pm.

It would continue until around 10pm, the power utility said.

“We would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term,” Eskom added.

Eskom urged customers to continue using alternative, energy efficient ways to keep warm throughout the cold season.
