Eskom will implement stage 1 load shedding at 16:00 and then move to stage 2 at 17:00 until 22:00 this evening.

According to the power utility, this is due to a shortage of generating capacity as several units are currently out of service due to maintenance.

“Eskom was able to meet demand for the morning until 16:00 today, which meant there was no load shedding. It is important to note that Eskom implements load shedding as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term.”

The parastatal calls on all customers to reduce the load on the electricity grid by urgently switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and all non-essential appliances throughout the day, which will reduce electricity demand.

Commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, are also requested to switch off non-essential lights and not leave office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours.

The Citizen has compiled a list of load shedding schedules from across different municipalities. Due to the fragmented nature of the information available, not all schedules may be accurate or up to date. If your schedule does not appear here or is not up to date, let us know.

Should you be powered directly by Eskom visit the Eskom load shedding site to find out when you’ll be out. Type in your suburb/area in the search box to easily locate your area, i.e. Pimville or the Midvaal municipality.

Eskom has also collated a list for municipal customers which can be accessed here.
