Former finance minister Pravin Gordhan on Monday referred the open letter written by President Jacob Zuma’s son‚ Duduzane, to his lawyers to look at.
This after the president’s son in the letter accused Gordhan of using state bodies such as the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) and the Reserve Bank to try to destroy him and his business partners, the Guptas, with no proof of misconduct.
Gordhan told TimesLIVE, because Duduzane said in his open letter he reserved the right to pursue legal action for the harm the ANC MP was doing‚ he had decided to refer the matter to his lawyers.
“The context matters. Why all of this? Two brothers getting noisy in the space of four days‚” Gordhan said.
Duduzane’s open letter follows Friday’s tirade by his elder brother, Edward, who heckled Gordhan in Pietermaritzburg while the MP was giving a keynote address during the Gandhi Memorial Lecture in Mountain Rise.
Edward called Gordhan a liar, traitor and a stooge of white monopoly capital.
“All what you’re saying, you’re lying. Pravin, you’re lying. You’re telling people lies. You sold the country to the white men in Stellenbosch. You sold the country; tell people that you sold the country to Rupert. You must come and meet me in parliament, I will tell you the same thing. I’ve always told you, you’re lying,” he said at the time.
