The Welkom Regional Court has sentenced a 37-year-old man to two life terms and an additional thirty years for raping three women and two children in separate incidents.
Police spokesperson Captain Stephen Thakeng said in a statement on Wednesday that Xakekile Charlon Meyer was arrested after a two-year crime spree in Bothaville from 2015 to 2016.
He was linked to the rapes through DNA.
Thakeng said Meyer raped a ten-year-old girl in October 2015 at Kgotsong Cemetry investigation. In January the following year, he raped a 54-year-old woman who had been walking alone at night in an informal settlement in Kgotsong, Bothaville.
“While on the ground, he undressed her and blindfolded her face with her panty. She was raped.”
In February 2016, he struck again, this time attacking a 56-year-old woman who had been on her way to her daughter’s house. He pulled her into a ditch where he strangled and raped her.
His next victim was a 21-year-old woman who he raped in September. In December, he assaulted and raped a seven-year-old girl under a train bridge.
Meyer was sentenced to two life terms for raping the minors, and ten years each for raping the three women.
