At least 10 people were injured, one of them a three-year-old boy who was critically injured, when the driver of a bakkie lost control of the vehicle and it rolled on the N12 near Delmas in Mpumalanga, paramedics said on Sunday.

ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene on Saturday to find the bakkie positioned upright in the middle of the highway, ER124 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“Patients that had been travelling on the back of the vehicle were now found scattered around on the scene. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that a three-year-old boy had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition, while at least 10 other adults had sustained minor to moderate injuries.”

The patients were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured boy provided with advanced life support before he was airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan helicopter to Sunshine Hospital for urgent treatment. The rest of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment, Meiring said.
