All students had vacated the Bremner building by lunchtime.

Supporters of the Rhodes Must Fall (RMF) movement on Wednesday occupied the University of Cape Town’s administration building, Bremner.

The students were protesting against a housing shortage at UCT which RMF believes says led to black exclusion and discrimination.

Just over 20 RMF members lay across the Bremner entranceway, moments after Vice-Chancellor Max Price concluded a briefing with the media.

At the briefing, Price confirmed that six students had been provisionally suspended.

The occupation and suspension follows chaotic protest action on Tuesday night which culminated in police firing stun grenades, students setting university property alight, and at least three students arrested.

All students had vacated the Bremner building by lunchtime.
